Heirloom Datil peppers are easily recognized by their distinct color transformation—from vibrant green through yellow to a rich orange.

  • Green Datil Peppers – Green, earthier datil flavor.

  • Ripe Orange Datil Peppers – Sweeter, fruitier datil flavor with even more heat.

Growing true heirloom Datils takes patience and precision:

  • It takes over 3 months to grow a seedling into a mature plant.

  • From first flower to green pepper maturity takes another 50+ days.

  • To reach full ripeness (orange), it takes an additional 20+ days on the vine. 

    IMPORTANT NOTE - Datil peppers do not ripen off the vine!

This long growing cycle to “All Ripe Orange” means fewer overall peppers per season, which contributes to their higher cost—but All Ripe Orange Datil Peppers are unmatched in sweetness and fruitiness.
